The powerboat side of Strictly Sail Pacific & Powerboat Expo may pick up on the weekend, but it was generally smaller and quieter during the show’s weekdays. With my colleague at YachtWorld.com and Boats.com, John Stewart, we reviewed a line-up of Sea Ray models and other bow-riding tow boats on display in Jack London Square. We then strolled to the dock and did a boat-to-boat comparison of several Marquis and Carver models presented by Wayne D’Anna Yacht Center. The lines are both owned by Genmar and built in Pulaski, Wisconsin, but present a striking contrast in modern motor yachts. We found even more contrast farther along the docks when we poked around on a classic Nordic Tug. Even at a small show, there was serious variety if you took the time to look, from the traditional trawler aesthetic at one end of the spectrum to the avante garde European styling of the Marquis 500 Sports Coupe.
