Consulting Time II, a Morris 486, left today from Marion, Massachusetts, bound for the Bahamas and a season of cruising in warmer waters. Ever wonder what an 8 to 12-day ocean voyage might be like? Captain Doug's long-time crew Andy will be our correspondent and promises to deliver the whole truth and nothing but.
As they get underway, here is the outline of Consulting Time's crew, the boat itself, where they're going and what we can expect to hear from them.
Captain Doug, Houston, TX
First Mate Bill, Annapolis, MD - seasoned racer & offshore passagemaker
Andy, Houston TX - long-time Consulting Time crew
Lora, up and coming cruiser - first blue-water trip
Consulting Time II, Morris 486. She was featured at the Annapolis Boat Show in Oct. 2003, and in Ocean Navigator - American Yacht Review, March/April 2004. Since launch, she's been in the Caribbean as far south as the Grenadines, coastal Maine, Chesapeake Bay, and the Med (2007-2008)
Depart Burr Brothers Marina, Marion, MA on 10/30. Bound for the Abacos, ultimately Marsh Harbour, Bahamas.
Daily (or almost) reports will arrive via Sailmail for friends and family—and readers of the Boats Blog. Andy writes: "If we are hugging the coast and I have cell coverage, I can send photos from my Blackberry. When we arrive in the Bahamas, and have Internet access, I may be able to send video if anything exciting gets captured, like landing a big fish, or making 8.5 knots close-hauled in big, gentle waves. If all hell breaks lose, I'll probably not be shooting video." (C'mon, Andy. Keep the camera handy!)
Stay tuned. We hope Andy will be writing early and often.
