Boats for the British Bad Boys

Are you a bad guy? If so, we have the perfect ride for you, Dr. Moriarty.

If there’s one thing you can count on the British for, it’s high quality villains. Bad guys always sound badder with the accent—think, Hans Gruber in Die Hard, Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones, or even Scar, in The Lion King. And remember, folks, this is a seafaring nation. So it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that their villains also cruise around in the coolest bad-boy boats.

Need proof? Our boats.com UK contributor Alex Smith has got it. Recently, Smith shared some of the top picks for British bad-boy boats. Here’s number one on his list:

The SeaPhantom – Yes, it does look like a space ship with hydrofoil vanes, but the SeaPhantom is designed to “fly” at speeds of up to 130 knots over the water, enjoying only minimal contact with the surface – and that raised-body, low-drag design has led to some remarkable claims regarding performance and efficiency.

Bond Villain boats: Sea Phantom 5

With looks like these, the SeaPhantom is a villain-mobile for sure!

This bad-a** boat has modified Ilmor powerplants—you know, the ones originally designed for Indy Car racing—and can reportedly cruise at speeds in excess of 100 knots. Designed by experienced offshore racer, David Borman, the SeaPhantom is built from a composite blend of Kevlar-reinforced fiberglass with a resilient polypropylene honeycomb core. It even has a NASCAR-style escape hatch and safety pod, which doubles as the boat’s lifeboat. The aim of all this is apparently to solve some of the world’s most pressing transport and ecology problems, and the makers envision it as a future form of public transportation.

Despite the builder’s laudable goals,  looks alone make this a sage choice for the aspiring villain in need of an image-boost. Learn more at SeaPhantom.
