Manic Monday: British Columbia’s Incredible Log Barges

Work smarter, not harder.

For all the engineers out there, this week’s Manic Monday video is for you. Behold, the log barge. You have to see her in action (it starts about 40 seconds in) to believe it.

This vessel is the Seaspan Phoenix, but the largest log barge on the West Coast, the RivTow Hercules, can hold a payload equivalent to 700 log trucks, and without the hassle of towing through open waterways. Log barges are equipped with self-loading cranes that allow cut wood to be loaded on deck, secured and transported. At the final destination the hull is flooded to tip the barge and all at once the wood is dumped. But as you now know, it looks way cooler than it sounds.

Work smarter, not harder.
