Jabsco How-To Videos: Help Yourself

This growing collection of step-by-step instructions is a boon to DIY boaters.

Jabsco and Rule have been two of the biggest names in marine pumps, water systems, and sanitation (along with a lot of other gear) for a long time. The companies, separately and together, have been parts of different corporate structures, with the most recent change in 2011 when ITT’s water-related businesses were spun off into Xylem, Inc. (FloJet, another well-known pump-maker, is another brand in the Xylem group.)

One of the videos on jabscotech.com shows how to replace the joker valve in Jabsco toilets. It's an easy job, but it's also nice to be able to watch the DIY video ahead of time.

Mike Irving and Jeff Lander, two of the Jabsco-Rule techs covering the US market, realized that the tech team was responding again and again to the same questions from different call-in customers. So they decided to make short, simple YouTube videos to cover the most important maintenance projects and commonly asked questions. Then they created a new web page, jabscotech.com, to host the material.

At the moment there are 22 videos online (most having to do with Jabsco products), ranging from subjects like how to winterize marine toilets to why air-locks can develop in bilge-pump discharge lines. The example below covers how to winterize a washdown pump.

Just as important, there’s a tab on the page that links to the technical documents (PDF format) for scores of Jabsco and Rule pumps and other products.

It’s great to see so much valuable DIY material gathered in one place. Thanks, Mike and Jeff, and keep those videos coming.
