Fishing Friday: Tackle Grab Sends You Lures

Want to have Christmas every month? Tackle Grab makes it happen – sort of.

It seemed like a really interesting way to play with some new fishing tackle: the folks at Tackle Grab signed me up for a three month membership, to try to get me to write about their service. Hmmm… seems like it may have worked.

This is what arrived at my house today, in the Tackle Grab box: a coil of nickle-titanium leader, a bag of Mr. Wiffle jig tails, and a sweet Yo-Zuri popper.

When you join Tackle Grab you fill out a membership form which asks what types of fishing you do, which species you target, and the tactics and tackle you like to use. Then, once a month, they send you a box of goodies which are appropriate to how you filled out the personal profile on the membership form. They guarantee a retail value of $16 or more for the tackle that comes your way, and monthly memberships cost between $12 and $14, depending on how long you sign up for.

When I first spoke with these folks, I had my doubts. After all, I’m pretty dang choosy about the lures I use and I don’t really want someone else picking them out for me. Then the boxes started arriving, and I have to admit, there’s something just plain fun about getting a box of mystery-tackle in the mail. It’s sort of like a mini-Christmas, once a month. And they’ve done a pretty good job at matching up what I use with what they send; this is the third and final month of my trial membership, and out of the nine items Tackle Grab sent me, seven are right up my alley and two are near-misses.

Will I sign up for an extended membership? Nah—I want full control when I choose my tackle. But what I will do is give Tackle Grab as a gift for friends who are fishermen. It’s a gift that will keep on giving, and when you buy tackle for another person you always risk getting them the wrong thing, anyway. And, I’d love it if someone gave me a Tackle Grab membership as a present (are you reading this, honey?). Because it’s a heck of a lot of fun, getting a taste of Christmas once a month.

  1. This is very interesting and informative. How long are the memberships available for? Is it just until you cancel it, or year long. It sounds like a great deal! Thank you such a genuine blog post.

  2. You can basically pre-pay for a pre-determined amount of time. Monthly, three month, six month, or year-long memberships are all available.
