Manic Monday Videos: Why you should wear a life jacket

You never know what will happen on the water, which is why safety — including life jackets — should be your first priority.

This Manic Monday Videos comes to you accompanied by three warnings:

  1. Don’t be an idiot, and don’t try this at home.
  2. Always wear your life jacket.
  3. Always hook up your kill switch.

The only reason this scenario has a happy ending is because this guy followed the last two suggestions, despite being an irresponsible driver in the first place.

Want some more information on boating safety or to spread the word? The Safe Boating Campaign has some great resources (read: freebies).

What do you think would convince people to act more safely on the water?

  1. I am not sure this video is the best choice to support your position on life jacket use. The man was operating his vessel totally irresponsibly and made horrendous choices. To use this video almost suggests it is okay to be stupid as long as you use your PFD. I find the “Don’t try this at home” remark to be trite and something of a throw away.

I totally support the use of PFDs and related safety gear. I do NOT support stupid, uneducated, unqualified operators having access to boats.

  2. @Rob: Thanks for your comment. We agree — and we support responsible boating on all levels. We do, however, sometimes feature videos of people being idiots.
