North-Line 37, Tough and Traditional

Providing contrast to the typical new boat displays at Southampton

Established in 1976, the Zevenhuizen Shipyard is a family shipyard for building custom built sailing and motor yachts that’s based in the North of Holland, close to the North Sea. In 2000, the shipyard started developing its own line of boats, North Line Yachts, in collaboration with the designer of the Nelson pilot ships, Arthur Mursell.

Beautiful, traditional joinery and a comfortable saloon by the helm station on the North Line 37

North Line Yachts’ Wheelhouse 37 was at the Southampton Boat Show in September, and for me the yacht really stood out, amongst the chic, white designer models it was lined up alongside.

From the first glance, you could tell that was a yacht that would almost look better with age and could deliver a stunning ride and comfortable accommodation in all manner of weather. The North-Line Wheelhouse 37 is a yacht with “seaworthy” written right through it.

The teak aft platform leads to an aft cockpit, which has an electrically opening engine hatch, which is fully sealed off from the remainder of the boat. The wheelhouse itself is virtually indestructible, including fireproof toughened glass. Topside, there are solid handrails, with a retractable section for ease of access when alongside other yachts.

Below deck, it was reassuring to see that there was impressive attention to detail; there was not the faintest line of filler in sight. A wealth of wood with leather and stainless steel features gives this yacht a traditional-feel, which is extremely hard wearing.

This is a well-designed and beautifully finished yacht that is built to take a pounding, whilst other yachts may devalue at a rate of knots. It would be fair to say that this reliable and tough ocean going partner, would give good service and value for many years.
