Boats.com Upgrade Contest Picks Winner

A $250 West Marine gift card goes to Capt. Chuck Cahill, who has two boats vying for their next upgrade.

We’re glad to announce that our “Share your upgrade story with Boats.com” Contest has a winner, Capt. Chuck Cahill, of Duxbury, Massachusetts. Of more than a dozen readers who told us about boat projects they had finished or were planning, Capt. Chuck’s name emerged from our drawing as the winner, who will now be able to spend a bit more on his boats with the $250 West Marine gift card we’re sending him.

The contest winner receives a $250 gift card to West Marine.

A bit like a Norman Rockwell painting, Chuck’s story reminds us of the best of times—when fathers always passed on their skills and know-how to their children (and many still do, we know), teaching them as they did the chores together on their houses, vehicles, and, in our world, boats!

In his short, but descriptive story as an entry in Boats.com’s contest, Capt. Chuck  took us through the upgrades he and his two sons made on their boats. Whether it was the 21’ Sea Pride or the 13’ Whaler, Capt. Chuck was preparing these boats to be safe, fun and look sharp.

The Sea Pride received much of the attention in the way of new equipment, including a new VHF and chartplotter. A new, clear windshield was also installed to make visibility easier when wearing sunglasses. The Whaler needed more aesthetic help. All the wood was sanded and finished as well as interior and exterior hull. To make steering more comfortable, the angle of the steering wheel was changed. The boat did receive a new depth finder and new battery, certainly making the boat safer and perhaps easier to start!

Capt. Chuck is the winner of our contest and besides receiving accolades across the Internet, we’re sending him the $250 West Marine gift card and look forward to learning how he decides to put it to work. If you go over to our Facebook page and tell us you “like” it, we’ll be happy to keep you posted when we hear again from Chuck, as well as when we publish other stories.

Congratulations to all entrants on improving their boats this spring, and thanks for participating!
